McDonald’s Japan Debuts ‘Evangelion Unit-M’ & 3 New Evangelion Burgers

McDonald’s Japan has announced an exciting collaboration with the legendary anime franchise Evangelion. Starting January 13, fans can enjoy three exclusive Evangelion-themed burgers alongside an innovative new mascot, “Evangelion Unit-M.”

Zakukiri Potato & Nikuatsu Beef Koku Uma Garlic Mayo

This burger features a crispy hash brown, a thick beef patty, and a rich garlic mayo sauce. It is designed to provide a flavorful and satisfying experience for burger enthusiasts and Evangelion fans alike.

Mexican Cheese Chicken

Perfect for those who love a spicy kick, this burger includes a chicken patty topped with zesty Mexican-style cheese.

Cheese Double Teriyaki

A classic choice with a twist, this burger combines two teriyaki beef patties with a generous layer of melted cheese.

Evangelion Unit-M: A Unique Mascot

McDonald’s Japan introduced the “Evangelion Unit-M” in a promotional commercial that uses footage from the Evangelion Rebuild films. The ad cleverly features Asuka Langley Soryu’s iconic catchphrase transformed into a burger pun: “Anta burger?” instead of “Anta baka?”

Engaging Commercials and Art

Two commercials showcase the collaboration. The first highlights the Zakukiri Potato & Nikuatsu Beef burger, with NERV members interrogating Gendo Ikari about its recipe. The second focuses on the other burgers, featuring characters like Misato Katsuragi and Ryoji Kaji.

Additionally, standalone artwork of Evangelion Unit-M was released on December 26. The design includes detailed views of its head, hand, and the burger itself, emphasizing the collaboration’s creative depth.

Collaboration History

The partnership between McDonald’s Japan and Evangelion was teased on December 18 and confirmed on December 20. Early announcements included transformable Evangelion toys and a commercial with newly recorded dialogue by the anime’s cast.
