“Genshin Impact” Records Lowest Revenue Ever Since Its Launch

“Genshin Impact,” the immensely popular game developed by HoYoverse, has recently experienced a notable drop in revenue during the month of May. This decline marks the lowest monthly revenue for the game since its launch in 2020.

According to data provided by AppMagic, “Genshin Impact” generated $53 million in global revenue throughout May. Although this remains a substantial amount compared to other gacha games, it falls short when compared to the game’s previous revenue records. Interestingly, May’s revenue even surpassed the previous lowest month, which occurred in June 2021.

Several factors contributed to this decline in revenue. The underperformance of the Baizhu debut banner in the Chinese iOS market played a significant role, as it only managed to generate $1.9 million. In contrast, the preceding Nahida and Nilou banner generated over $8 million in revenue, as reported by Sportskeeda.

Another factor that impacted “Genshin Impact’s” revenue was the successful launch of HoYoverse’s latest gacha game, “Honkai Star Rail.” The game, released on April 26, 2023, achieved an impressive revenue of $129 million within its first month. Additionally, the ongoing Jing Yuan banner disrupted the top-up system of “Honkai Star Rail,” diverting players’ attention and spending.

Considering these circumstances, it is understandable that “Genshin Impact” experienced a decline in revenue. Nonetheless, “Genshin Impact” remains one of the largest and most influential gacha games in the market. While this slight decrease in revenue may raise eyebrows, it is unlikely to have a severe impact on the game’s overall success and popularity.
