Paimon’s Voice Actress In “Genshin Impact” Says She Hasn’t Been Paid In Months

Corina Boettger, the voice actress behind Paimon in “Genshin Impact,” has revealed that she hasn’t been paid for several months on a significant project for a studio. While she doesn’t explicitly mention “Genshin Impact,” it is widely believed to be the game she’s referring to, considering it’s her most prominent role.

Boettger’s claims gain credibility given “Genshin Impact’s” tremendous financial success, with over $3 billion in revenue. Paimon, as the talkative companion of the player character, has a significant amount of dialogue, making Boettger’s assertion that the project has made “billions” highly plausible.

In a series of tweets, Boettger expressed her frustration, stating that she hasn’t received payments since December 2022. While she’s unsure whether the fault lies with Hoyoverse, the game’s developer, or the voice-acting studio, she strongly believes that this wouldn’t happen if the project were unionized.

Boettger’s retweets of messages directly addressing “Genshin Impact” and its publisher, HoyoVerse, indirectly confirm that she’s referring to her role as Paimon. Additionally, fellow voice actor Brandon Winckler, known for various NPC roles in the game, has also called out “Genshin Impact” on Twitter for withholding payments despite its success.

The English voiceovers for “Genshin Impact” are done by Formosa Interactive, a California-based company. However, Formosa Interactive has faced controversy in the past regarding voice acting and fair payment. It was one of eleven companies targeted during the 2016-2017 Video Game Voice Actors Strike by The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) Union.

Kyle McCarley, another voice actor, has highlighted that Formosa Interactive is a SAG-AFTRA signatory, which should ensure better working conditions and timely payment for the voice actors they hire. As of now, neither Formosa Interactive nor Hoyoverse has commented on the issue, although attempts have been made to obtain a response from Formosa Interactive.
