RF Online NEXT Reveals Massive Changes From The Original MMORPG

Netmarble’s unveiling of RF Online Next at G-STAR 2023 sparks excitement among fans of the sci-fi MMORPG. With many players eager for more information, Hong Kwang Min, the Project Director of RF Online NEXT, shares some insights that players might like or not like.

RF Online was one of the most unique MMORPGs of the 2000s thanks to its combat diversity where they introduced the prospect of summoning powerful beings to aid them in combat, utilizing giant launchers with devastating effects, and riding giant robots, a unique facet of the genre. Each of these unique themes was originally only available by the race you have chosen. In RF Online NEXT, everything will be different. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Rich World: The game will retain the original narrative, emphasizing faction-based conflicts.
  • RvR Dynamics: Each faction (Cora, Bellato, Accretia) offers diverse gameplay, adding a unique flavor to the RvR content.
  • Graphics & Elements: Retains core elements with Unreal Engine 5’s graphical overhaul.
  • Faction System: Accretia, Bellato, and Cora will now be NATIONS, instead of Races which means all 3 will gain access to all unique features.
  • Cross-Platform & Progression: The game is set to have cross-platform support for mobile and PC.
  • Realm vs. Realm Battles: Shifts from faction-based choices to nation selection, introducing conflicts based on nations and resource wars.
  • Progression System & Customization: Classes will now be in the form of six distinct biosuits with unique combat experiences and a new Punisher class that will introduce fresh gameplay. Offers customization options with biscuits and giant robots for varied battle strategies.

With all honesty, there will definitely be a split opinion on the game’s direction. Many fans of the original RF Online might not like the changes made, especially with the faction system. Some just want upgraded graphics that can be played on both mobile and PC and leave the original game mechanics as it was.

On the other hand, this will alleviate the burden of choosing a faction just because of its unique features. You don’t need to be locked in Bellato anymore just because you wanted to have a giant combat mech, or forced to choose Cora cause they’re the only ones that can summon Animus.
