Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica Remakes Reportedly in Development

Following the success of the Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes, Capcom is reportedly working on remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica. This news comes from a Twitter/X report by insider Dusk Golem, corroborated by IGN. Capcom has not officially commented yet.

Resident Evil Zero, released on the GameCube in 2002, is a prequel to the 1996 Resident Evil game. It covers the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team in the Arklay Mountains, featuring police officer Rebecca Chambers and former Force Reconnaissance Officer Billy Coen. An HD remaster was released in 2016, followed by a Nintendo Switch release in 2019.

Code Veronica, released for the Dreamcast in 2000, is the fourth mainline Resident Evil game and the first on a non-PlayStation console. It follows Claire and Chris Redfield on a remote prison island. The game transitioned from pre-rendered backgrounds to real-time 3D environments with dynamic camera movements. It was later remastered for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and is available via backward compatibility.

This announcement aligns with Capcom’s hints about continuing Resident Evil remakes. At a PlayStation partner awards event in Japan, Resident Evil 4 remake director Yasuhiro Anpo expressed enthusiasm for making older games accessible to a modern audience, stating Capcom plans to continue remaking more titles.

Besides these remakes, Capcom is developing the next mainline Resident Evil game, currently referred to as Resident Evil 9. Capcom’s next major release is Monster Hunter Wilds, scheduled for 2025.
