Wuthering Waves Receives Massive Backlash After Serious Mistranslation

The action RPG Wuthering Waves has launched globally, attracting significant attention and a large player base. However, the game faces severe backlash due to a serious mistranslation error.

The controversy centers on a translation mistake by developer Kuro Games that misrepresented the effects of the 5-star limited character Jiyan’s signature weapon in the game’s Japanese (JP) version. The erroneous description read, “Each time an Intro Skill or Resonance Skill, …,” instead of the correct “Each time an Intro Skill or Resonance Liberation, …“. These terms denote specific abilities or mechanics within the game. Consequently, players relying on the inaccurate description might misinterpret the weapon’s benefits.

Kuro Games quickly corrected the mistake after it was reported. To compensate for the inconvenience, the developers offered players one roll. However, this gesture was seen as insufficient and fueled further frustration among the player base.

The backlash has escalated to the point where some Japanese players are considering reporting Kuro Games to the Consumer Affairs Agency Department, arguing that the mistranslation constitutes misleading information and a violation of the Consumer Protection Act.

Adding to the discontent is the perception that the game’s release could have been more timely, with many players criticizing the communication gap between the developers and the community. Players remain dissatisfied despite the resources and guides provided by Kuro Games—including redeem codes, beginner’s and weapon guides, and troubleshooting tips.

As Kuro Games navigates this challenging period, they aim to address these issues effectively and restore player confidence.
