KRAFTON & Com2us Under Investigation For Alleged Gacha Rate Manipulation

The gaming industry faces scrutiny as the Korea Fair Trade Commission investigates KRAFTON and Com2us for suspected gacha rate manipulation in popular titles. According to a report by Gamerbraves, the allegations suggest both companies misrepresented and covertly manipulated drop rates in their gacha games, a practice with significant repercussions for gamers and regulators.

Reports indicate PUBG: Battlegrounds by KRAFTON and Starseed: Asnia Trigger by Com2us are under scrutiny. In Korea, gacha games must accurately disclose drop rates, any deviation spells trouble for companies. Recent probes targeted Ragnarok, MU Archangel, and Nightcrows for similar allegations.

Some games had drop rates far below advertised, including 0% rates for the first 150 pulls in MU Archangel and drop rates up to 8 times lower than stated in Ragnarok. Nexon Korea faced penalties, fined 11.64 billion won, the largest under the Korean Electronic Commerce Act, for misrepresenting drop rates and setting them at 0 without informing users.

Officials from KRAFTON and Com2us view the investigations as routine inspections and pledge cooperation with the Korea Fair Trade Commission. A collective dispute mediation process addresses the grievances of users who suffered losses due to fraudulent practices. Over 6,000 applicants signal the widespread impact on gamers.
