KRAFTON Officially Renames Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons

KRAFTON has officially rebranded its mobile dungeon crawler, previously known as Dark and Darker Mobile, to Abyss of Dungeons. This change follows the mutual termination of the licensing agreement between KRAFTON and Ironmace, the original developers of the Dark and Darker IP.

The game, developed by KRAFTON’s subsidiary Bluehole Studio, remains in its soft launch phase in Canada and the USA. A broader soft launch is scheduled for June 11, 2025, targeting Indonesia, Thailand, Brazil, and Mexico. Despite the name change, KRAFTON assures players that the core gameplay experience will remain consistent.

Why the Name Change?

The rebranding to Abyss of Dungeons reflects KRAFTON’s intent to establish a distinct identity for the game, independent of the Dark and Darker IP. This move allows KRAFTON to continue developing and expanding the game without the constraints of the previous licensing agreement.

While some industry observers speculate that legal disputes involving Ironmace may have influenced this decision, KRAFTON has stated that the rebranding is unrelated to any legal matters.

Players can expect the same immersive dungeon-crawling experience that blends elements of battle royale survival, RPG progression, and extraction mechanics. The game features five character classes—Fighter, Barbarian, Rogue, Ranger, and Cleric—each with unique skills and equipment.

Key gameplay features include:

PvE and PvP Dungeons: Engage in cooperative or competitive dungeon runs.
Sidekick System: Recruit AI-controlled companions to assist in battles.
Pet System: Utilize pets that provide various buffs before entering dungeons.
Loot and Progression: Collect gear, complete quests, and upgrade equipment to enhance your character’s abilities.

These features aim to provide a rich and challenging experience for both new and returning players.

What’s Next?

The upcoming soft launch on June 11, 2025, will expand the game’s availability to additional regions, including Indonesia, Thailand, Brazil, and Mexico. KRAFTON continues to target a global release within the first half of 2025, although specific dates have yet to be announced.
