Sony vs. Tencent: Court Hearing for Light of Motiram Lawsuit Delayed to 2026

Tencent Holdings and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s legal dispute over the game Light of Motiram has just taken a new turn. Officially, the hearing on allegations that Tencent’s next game is too similar to Sony’s Horizon games has been rescheduled for 2026.

What Takes Place Behind the Scenes

With references to visuals, mechanics, and even marketing, Sony claims that Light of Motiram basically imitates its well-liked Horizon series. Amid increased legal wrangling, the hearing was postponed. Tencent is vigorously defending itself, claiming that Sony is going too far with its claims and that the case is not yet legitimate because the game hasn’t been released.

Tencent Gets More Time

The gaming industry as a whole may be significantly impacted by the delay. The additional time gives Tencent the chance to improve Light of Motiram, possibly modifying its gameplay, art direction, or marketing materials to set it apart from Horizon even more. Additionally, it provides the company’s legal team with more time to develop a more robust defense, consult with experts, and more successfully refute Sony’s allegations.

Sony, however, will have to wait a long time before obtaining any significant remedy, including damages, an injunction, or even a possible settlement. Tencent can continue to develop, iterate, and potentially gain more leverage if public interest in the game increases with each month of delay.
