Riot Games Fighting Game 2XKO Launches in January

Riot Games has officially announced that its highly anticipated tag-team fighting game, 2XKO, will transition out of early access for a full release on January 20, 2026. The news originally leaked via a trailer that was briefly posted to the official channel before being taken down, but the date has since been confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Set in the popular League of Legends universe, the game allows players to form teams of two champions to battle it out in high-stakes matches that emphasize synergy and fast-paced strategy.

2v2 Tag Team Mechanics and Fuses

The core of 2XKO is its 2v2 tag fighter system, where players can either control two characters solo or pair up with a friend in duo mode. This cooperative element is a standout feature for the genre, allowing for complex team-based plays. The game also introduces a unique “Fuse” system—modifiers that allow players to customize their team’s playstyle and strategic options. Each champion from the League of Legends roster has been carefully redesigned with a full moveset specifically tailored for fighting game mechanics, ensuring a deep and balanced competitive experience.

Robust Online Features and Infrastructure

To ensure a smooth competitive environment, Riot Games has equipped 2XKO with advanced rollback netcode and a dedicated anti-cheat system. The full launch will include various modes such as Ranked, Casual, and Private Lobbies. A major social feature is the virtual arcade lobby, where players can walk around, find matches, or spectate other fights. With its striking 2D visual style, stages themed after different regions of Runeterra, and an original soundtrack, the game is set to be a major entry in the fighting game community.
