Ubisoft Confirms The Division 3 Is Now In Development

Ubisoft has officially announced that The Division 3 is now in active production. During the New Game Plus Showcase in early January 2026, Julian Gerighty, the executive producer for the franchise, shared that the project is shaping up to be a massive undertaking. Gerighty previously led the original game and served as the creative director for Star Wars Outlaws. He emphasized that the team at Massive Entertainment is dedicated to ensuring this third entry has a significant impact on the gaming world, much like the first game did when it launched in 2016.

Building on a Decade of Tactical Gameplay

The announcement coincides with the tenth anniversary of the franchise, highlighting the lasting appeal of its post-apocalyptic setting. While the developers have not yet shared specific gameplay details or a setting, the focus remains on delivering the high-quality tactical combat and detailed world-building that fans expect. The original game was famous for its snowy New York City atmosphere and the intense extraction mechanics of the Dark Zone. The team hopes to capture that same sense of wonder and tension while applying the lessons learned from the live service updates of the second game.

Expanding the Division Universe

Even as the studio focuses on the trilogy, Ubisoft is expanding the brand across other platforms. A special anniversary update for The Division 2 is currently in the works, which will feature an updated version of the popular survival mode set in a blizzard covered Washington, D.C. Additionally, the mobile MMO title The Division Resurgence is nearing the end of its development cycle. While a full reveal for The Division 3 is not expected immediately, the confirmation of active production provides a clear roadmap for the future of the series.
