Nexon Issues Massive Refund for MapleStory: Idle RPG Following Probability Error

Nexon has officially issued a public apology following the discovery of a critical “mathematical error” in the ability system of MapleStory: Idle RPG. The issue involved paid stat rerolls where the highest possible values were technically unreachable due to an incorrectly configured probability formula. According to Asia Business Daily, the calculation was mistakenly set to “less than” instead of “less than or equal to,” effectively locking players out of top-tier stat rolls for several weeks between November 2025 and January 2026. This error came to light after the development team quietly applied a “ninja fix” in December without notifying the community, leading to a major controversy once the discrepancy was identified by the player base.

Comprehensive Refund and Compensation Plan

In an effort to regain player trust and address the significant disappointment caused by the error, Nexon has announced a robust compensation package for those affected. The company’s leadership has committed to a full refund policy for in-game purchases made during the period when the probability error was active. The compensation measures include the following actions:

Players who used the “Medal of Honor” item to reset their character abilities will receive a full refund of the item itself. In addition to the item return, affected users will be granted 200% of the paid currency spent on those specific transactions. Nexon will also distribute a variety of additional in-game items to all users as a general apology for the lack of transparency. It is important to note that players who choose to receive a full financial refund for their purchases may have their game access restricted in accordance with standard service policies.

Internal Accountability and Future Safeguards

The co-CEOs of Nexon Korea have taken full responsibility for the oversight and the delayed executive awareness of the issue, which reportedly didn’t reach management until late January. To prevent a recurrence, the company is conducting a thorough internal investigation and has stated that disciplinary actions, including potential dismissals, will be taken against those responsible for the quiet patch and the initial error. Moving forward, Nexon has promised more rigorous reviews of all probability-based systems and has pledged to maintain a higher standard of communication with the “Mapler” community. Detailed instructions on how to apply for the refund process will be released in a separate notice on the game’s official website.
