‘Firefly Wedding’ TV Anime Airs in October 2026

Oreco Tachibana’s latest and beloved josei manga, Firefly Wedding, has officially been confirmed to have a TV anime adaptation. It will air in October on Fuji TV’s noitaminA block in Japan.

Takahiro Kamei (Urusei Yatsura) will direct Firefly Wedding at David Production (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Fire Force, Cells at Work!), with character designs by Yukiko Aikyou (Your Lie in April, Accel World, Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop).

The teaser visual features fragile Satoko Kirigaya in the arms of her lover, Shinpei Gotou, who is splattered in blood. Under the moonlight, fireflies light up around them while Shinpei looks at us with psychopathic eyes.

The Firefly Wedding manga is renowned for its haunting portrayal of a mad love between a yandere assassin and a sick noble lady in the Meiji era. It began serialization in January 2023, with the final chapter scheduled for release by Comikey on January 12.

Synopsis:

On the surface, Satoko has it all—she’s beautiful, the daughter of a nobleman, and at a prime age for marriage. Unfortunately, she is also quite ill and only has a short time left to live. Before she can secure a marriage that will redeem her worth in her family’s eyes, she finds herself the target of the mysterious assassin Shinpei, and her plans are put in jeopardy. In order to save herself, she makes a desperate proposal—of marriage! When it comes to love, however, Shinpei takes “until death do we part” seriously. (VIZ Media)

Anime Shows Like Firefly Wedding

Firefly Wedding is Oreco Tachibana’s hit manga series after Promise Cinderella. As fans await the anime this fall, they could enjoy these similar dark romance series in the meantime:

For those who prefer similar arranged marriage tropes, there’s Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii. This time, however, it’s between the grandkids of two powerful yakuza families. It follows Somei Yoshino as she marries the grandson of the head of the Miyama yakuza group, who’s not what he seems to be.

Meanwhile, for those who want the real enemies-to-lovers trope, Love of Kill may be the perfect series, as it’s about two assassins trying to kill each other and not fall in love in the process.
