A Legendary Night with Puso Wrestling Alamat

A good story would often have you at the edge of your seats and when something entertaining happens in front of you, you can’t help but watch. To others wrestling may be a barbaric affair but with an open mind and the appreciation for the physical spectacle that would unfold right in front of you, you’re bound to be an appreciator of big meaty men (and women) slapping meat.

Puso Wrestling Alamat, the promotion’s penultimate event happened last Sunday November 30 at Brawlpit Bulusan Quezon City and getting to watch it ringside was just a fun time overall. For context on the gravity of the event, you could see it as the promotion’s own Wrestlemania where major championships are fought over, and feuds are brought to their limits. Considering how many matches there were that night, here are some of the most memorable moments.

Chaos at the rumble!

Alamat started off the evening with the Relic Rumble, a battle royale free for all for a chance at a title opportunity at any given moment. Similar to how Money in the Bank functions in the WWE, this match gives its winner an express ticket to the main event making them one of the secret protagonists of a promotion within any given year.

What I enjoyed about this match in particular was how it gave newer faces to the promotion their own moments and even gave a pecking order on one of its factions, the House of Liwanag. I particularly enjoyed when Aaron Liwanag chokeslammed a gen z participant who literally flossed after an elimination out of the ring. Good times.

Hardcore is for Everyone!

Traditionally when you think of hardcore matches, you’d think WWE legends like Mick Foley, an entire hardware store being ransacked  or in other cases, weapons of all shapes and sizes. Puso Wrestling had a treat in store for its fans with a no holds barred match announced bringing that hardcore dream to fruition.

To my surprise, that no holds barred match featured PUSO Wrestling Stars Chelsea Marie and Joya, and the carnage in and out of the ring was spectacular. While normally done with male wrestlers, the women brought their a game on and my only regret after the match was not shouting ACE HARDWARE with all the tools they were bringing out.  The plywood, chains, and kendo sticks were broken thereafter but you know what’s unbreakable? Their spirit. Also the ladder too but there’s always next time!

The End of an Era

Later on in the evening, a Loser Leaves Puso Wrestling match occurred between Fabio Makisig and Danny Zamora. While the match was filled with its own twists and turns happening throughout with Fabio unfortunately losing, what happened afterwards painted a picture on how the state of Filipino Wrestling actually is. It may not be the most glamorous affair but Puso Wrestling showed why it had the passion and heart that it did.

After all that’s said and done though, here’s to hoping that maybe down the line Fabio comes back but if he doesn’t, let’s hope that where he goes is ready for him.

Winner Take All!

The evening’s main event featured Main Maxx, Puso Wrestling’s Pusong Pinoy Champion going up against Jake De Leon, Setup Thailand’s 24/7 champion as well as the reigning DXCN champion. Its winners take all with their respective championships being put on the line and it’s in matches like these where you see why it’s the main event.

Throughout the match, the character work between both wrestlers was on another level with surprisingly snappy action with loads of character in between. Jake De Leon unleashed his entire arsenal of moves as Main Maxx went at it with his big man style even channeling John Cena who recently beat JDL.

As the dust settled, Jake De Leon walked away with his 3rd belt in tow with help from Barangay Bagsakan who had a match against Crystal and Joey Rosas earlier on in the event and Main Maxx announcing next year being his last year of competition. Both competitors left their heart in the ring to end the night and it had me excited for what’s next

What didn’t make the cut

As an honorary mention, one of the evening’s highlights was the crowd’s energy throughout the night, especially one little girl at ring side. All the heckling, shouting and cheering reminded me of how wrestling can be and if you can get a reaction like that out of a child, you know you’re in a good place.

Closing

Puso Wrestling Alamat was a great night true to its name with all the legendary stories and experiences that happened. While wrestling may not be everybody’s cup of tea, it’s in shows like this that make you want to root for the promotion. Between the wrestlers, the crowd and even the fun merch you could find, what’s not to love.

Like any episodic show though, once just isn’t enough to get the full picture of what’s happening but just because the night ended doesn’t mean the show’s done. Check out Puso Wrestling over on their page for more updates to catch the next one and even the other Filipino promotions.
