“Honkai: Star Rail”, the upcoming cross-platform RPG by HoYoverse, is set to launch on April 26, 2023, with a pre-download available on April 23. The game features a vast selection of characters, with a number of them available for free to unlock.
While it’s true that acquiring all the characters in “Honkai: Star Rail” can take time and money, the game offers several 4-star and 5-star characters that players can unlock using Star Rail Passes and Special Passes. However, there’s always the risk of not getting the characters you want due to the game’s gacha system. But do keep in mind that just like in “Genshin Impact,” character rarity does not affect your game experience. You can literally play the game with no problem at all if you decide to use free or 4-star characters throughout your entire playthrough.
Thankfully, there are some free characters that players can claim in “Honkai: Star Rail”, including some of the game’s best 4-star characters. Remember, though, that this list may change once the game fully launches. There are eight free characters that players can obtain without spending any currency, such as Trailblazer, March 7th, Dan Heng, Asta, Herta, Natasha, Qingque, and Serval (obtainable through pre-registration.)

Natasha – 4 star who focuses on physical attacks and with the path of Abundance
Qingque – 4 star with the element of Quantum and with the path of Erudition
Serval – 4 star with the element of lightning and with the path of Erudition
In addition, HoYoverse also provides limited-time events and giveaways, similar to “Genshin Impact,” that allows players to obtain free characters. For instance, to celebrate “Honkai: Star Rail” reaching 3,500,000 pre-registrations, the game is giving away Serval – a powerful 4-star Lightning character. The game has already reached its final pre-registration goal of 5 million sign-ups and is currently raking in more.
