Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is Officially Shutting Down

Activision has officially confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will be delisted from the App Store and Google Play on Sunday, May 18, 2025. This announcement comes just over a year after its global release in March 2024. While the game aimed to bring the intense battle royale experience of Warzone to mobile platforms, it ultimately failed to meet the expectations of mobile-first players. In contrast to the console and PC versions of Warzone, which remain successful and popular, the mobile adaptation struggled to gain traction with its target audience.

What Players Need to Know

The game will no longer be available to download after May 18, 2025. However, players who already have it installed by that date will still be able to access the game. Activision has confirmed that these players will retain access to online matchmaking and cross-progression features tied to their accounts. While the game won’t receive new seasonal updates, gameplay will remain available in its existing form for those who have it on their devices.

Effective immediately, in-game purchases using real money—such as Call of Duty Points and the Black Cell battle pass—have been disabled. Players with unspent COD Points are encouraged to use their remaining balance in the game’s store while servers are still active. Importantly, these players will not lose access to their digital inventories or unlocked content.

Why Warzone Mobile Is Shutting Down

The decision to shut down Warzone Mobile stems from underwhelming engagement and retention among mobile gamers. While the game launched with massive hype and over 50 million pre-registrations, it did not maintain long-term interest in the mobile gaming space. Activision acknowledged the game was an ambitious attempt to deliver an authentic Warzone experience on phones, but admitted it did not resonate with mobile-first players the way they had hoped. By comparison, Call of Duty: Mobile—developed by TiMi Studios and released in 2019—has been a massive success, boasting hundreds of millions of downloads and consistent community support.
