“Disgaea RPG” English Version Shutting Down On May 12

“Disgaea RPG”, the popular mobile adaptation of Nippon Ichi Software’s Disgaea Franchise, has announced that it will be shutting down its English servers after a little over two years since its launch. Fans of the game have been left saddened by the news, which was announced on the official Facebook page of the game by the developers, ForwardWorks Corporation, and publisher, Boltrend Games.

Despite the announcement, the developers did not provide any clear reason for the shutdown, leaving fans to speculate about the underlying reasons. Some believe that the game’s underwhelming sales and dwindling fan base may have contributed to the decision. It is an unexpected move, given the success of the franchise as a whole and the upcoming release of the 7th entry in the series.

“Disgaea RPG” brought the series’ team-based RPG battles and original characters to mobile, hoping to achieve the same success as its console counterparts. However, it appears that it fell short of replicating the franchise’s success in the mobile gaming space. The game’s Chinese server was shut down in late 2022, and now the English servers will be following suit on May 12th.

The developers have provided a detailed timeline for the shutdown, with the game becoming unavailable on all platforms from May 12th, and in-app purchases being disabled from April 19th. Meanwhile, the Japanese server of the game will continue to receive new updates.
