Square Enix and Tencent Games have announced that the Android technical test for Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World will commence in China on May 23, 2025. Developed by Tencent’s subsidiary, Lightspeed Studios, this mobile adaptation brings the expansive world of Eorzea to smartphones, aiming to replicate the core experience of the original MMORPG.
What to Expect from the Technical Test
The upcoming test is a limited, confidential deletion test, meaning all progress will be wiped afterward. It includes paid content and offers players a chance to experience the game’s features before its official release. Recruitment for the test is open until May 22, 2025. The test may only be open for China, but knowing that there’s even a test happening means the game is moving forward in a brisk manner. Hopefully, a global version will launch soon by the end of this year or even maybe during the first quarter of 2026.

Players can look forward to:
- Nine playable jobs at launch, including Warrior, Paladin, Bard, and Black Mage.
- Eleven crafting and gathering classes.
- Non-combat activities like fishing, chocobo racing, and the Triple Triad card game.
- The Armoury system, allowing seamless job-switching.
- Customization options for avatars and housing.
- Seasonal events and a dynamic weather system with over 600 patterns.
The game is designed to be free-to-play, with monetization through an in-game store offering mounts, outfits, and level upgrades

Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World aims to deliver a comprehensive MMORPG experience on mobile devices, preserving the essence of the original game while optimizing for touch controls. With its rich content and engaging gameplay, the upcoming technical test offers a glimpse into the future of mobile gaming in the Final Fantasy universe.
