Moonton’s Watcher of Realms Exposed: Caught Rigging Their Gacha Mechanics

Watcher of Realms, a popular mobile RPG by Moonton, has come under fire after a content creator, Fastidious, revealed that the game’s gacha system is not as random as advertised. The allegations highlight pre-determined rates for both regular and super summons, undermining the notion of fair RNG (random number generation).

Fixed Summon Rates in Watcher of Realms

Super Summons

Super summons, marketed as providing higher chances for obtaining legendary heroes, are harder to acquire and significantly more expensive than regular summons. However, Fastidious revealed that accounts are assigned fixed summoning rates.

  • Players must perform a set number of super summons within a week before a legendary hero is guaranteed.
  • This “summon timer” resets weekly, forcing players to repeat the same grind for another legendary hero.

Regular Summons

Regular summons are similarly manipulated:

  • The first 50 summons of any rate-up banner are entirely scripted.
  • Players predetermined to get a legendary hero within the first five 10-pulls will always receive it, while others will not.
  • The scripted nature resets with every new banner, restarting the same pre-set pulls.

Moonton’s Response and Compensation

Following the revelations, Moonton acknowledged the issue in an official statement, attributing it to a “bug” and promising fixes. The developer claimed they had resolved the issue before the latest summoning events on November 21, 2024.

As compensation for the controversy, Moonton offered all players:

  • 60 Rare Summoning Crystals
  • 10 Legendary Summoning Crystals
  • 1 Prime Legendary Pick
  • 1 Ultimate Hero Pact

The company expressed gratitude to the community and pledged to ensure fairness and transparency moving forward.

Player Reactions and Implications

The controversy has sparked backlash among players, with many criticizing the misleading mechanics and questioning Moonton’s credibility. While some appreciated the compensation, others remain skeptical about future gacha practices in the game.

The incident raises broader concerns about transparency in gacha-based games, urging players and regulators alike to demand clearer disclosures on summoning systems.
