In a significant development for fantasy enthusiasts, Netflix is bringing the iconic “Dungeons & Dragons” universe to life with a new live-action series titled “The Forgotten Realms.” This announcement follows the success of the 2023 film “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” which grossed over $205 million worldwide.

A New Chapter in the Dungeons & Dragons Saga
The upcoming series, “The Forgotten Realms,” is set to explore the rich lore of the famed Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting. Drew Crevello, known for his work on Apple’s “WeCrashed,” will serve as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Shawn Levy, recognized for directing “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Stranger Things,” will executive produce alongside Dan Levine through their company, 21 Laps, under its overall TV deal with Netflix.

Transition from Paramount+ to Netflix
Initially, a Dungeons & Dragons series was in development at Paramount+ with a series order. However, due to strategic shifts at Paramount and Hasbro’s sale of co-studio eOne, the project did not move forward. Netflix has since taken up the mantle, collaborating with Hasbro Entertainment to bring this beloved fantasy world to the screen.

Anticipated Storyline and Setting
While specific plot details remain under wraps, fans can expect the series to delve into the expansive narratives and characters that have made “The Forgotten Realms” a cornerstone of Dungeons & Dragons lore. Given the creative team involved, the series promises to blend action, adventure, and intricate storytelling.
