Atari Reported to Lead Rayman Revival for 30th Anniversary

In a surprising turn of events, the Australian Classification Board recently rated an unannounced title: Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition. While Ubisoft remains the owner of the IP, the listing identifies Atari as both the developer and the publisher for this project. This unusual licensing deal suggests that while Ubisoft focuses its internal resources on a larger organizational “reset” and other core franchises, it has entrusted the heritage of its mascot to Atari. The game has received a “G” rating for very mild impact violence and is currently slated for release on the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.

What to Expect from “Project Iceman”

According to industry insider Tom Henderson, this 30th Anniversary Edition is currently operating under the internal codename “Iceman.” While details on specific features are still under wraps, the classification and timing point toward several key elements:

  • Retro Focus: Given Atari’s recent success with preservation-focused projects like Atari 50, fans expect this edition to be a high-quality port or a light remaster of the original 1995 2D platformer.
  • Physical Release: The involvement of U&I Entertainment as the applicant for the rating indicates that a physical edition is almost certainly in the works, potentially featuring retro-style packaging and manuals.
  • Release Timing: Henderson suggests that the launch is “very, very soon,” likely aiming for the first quarter of 2026 to coincide with the ongoing anniversary celebrations that began in September 2025.

The Future of Rayman at Ubisoft

The 30th Anniversary Edition is reportedly only one part of a multi-pronged strategy to bring Rayman back into the spotlight. Despite recent studio closures and the cancellation of projects like the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, Ubisoft has confirmed that its creative house “CH4” (Ubisoft Montpellier and Milan) is working on a separate, larger-scale AAA Rayman title. Additionally, rumors persist of a remake of the 2013 hit Rayman Legends, currently codenamed “Steamboat.” By outsourcing the 30th Anniversary port to Atari, Ubisoft ensures the franchise stays active while they develop a more modern, ambitious future for the series.
