Blizzard Unveils “The Next Chapter” with Series of Game Showcases

Blizzard Entertainment is officially kicking off its 35th anniversary by unveiling “The Next Chapter,” a series of developer-led spotlights scheduled over the next two weeks. To mark the occasion, the company released a nostalgic video chronicling decades of PC gaming history, from the early days of StarCraft to the modern era of Overwatch. While the video serves as a tribute to the past, its primary purpose is to signal that major announcements are on the horizon. Blizzard has confirmed that these showcases will feature significant game launch news from across their most popular universes, providing fans with a clear roadmap for the remainder of 2026.

Full Showcase Schedule and Details

The spotlights will be broadcast on each title’s respective YouTube and Twitch channels. Fans can look forward to deep dives into upcoming content, expansions, and perhaps even entirely new projects. The confirmed schedule (in UTC+8) is as follows:

  • January 30: “World of Warcraft State of Azeroth” – Expected to focus on the next steps for the Worldsoul Saga and Midnight expansion.
  • February 5: “Overwatch Spotlight” – Anticipated to reveal new heroes, maps, and competitive updates for the hero shooter.
  • February 10: “Hearthstone Spotlight” – Likely to detail the first expansion of 2026 and new modes.
  • February 12: “Diablo 30th Anniversary Spotlight” – A major celebration focusing on the future of Diablo IV and the legacy of the franchise.

What About StarCraft and Heroes of the Storm?

While the anniversary video featured the logos of all major Blizzard franchises, two notable titles, StarCraft and Heroes of the Storm, were not assigned their own individual showcases. This has led to mixed reactions among fans, though many hope that the inclusion of their logos in the 35th-anniversary celebration indicates that Blizzard still considers them vital parts of the company’s future. Additionally, Blizzard has confirmed that BlizzCon 2026 will return on September 12–13, where even larger announcements and hands-on experiences are expected for the global community.
