Bill Roper, an industry veteran who worked on classic games at Blizzard Entertainment like Diablo, StarCraft, and Warcraft, has announced that his company, Lunacy Games, has raised the first round of funding for a new project called Innsmouth Mysteries. The game is a cooperative horror-extraction role-playing game that draws inspiration from H. P. Lovecraft, and it’s characterized as a hybrid of AAA and indie.
The Big Bang Accelerator (BBX) gave Lunacy Games a $500,000 seed investment to develop a vertical slice and advance the idea.

A Game For Lovecraftian Fans
The game Innsmouth Mysteries immerses players in a spooky seaside town from the 1920s, where paranormal investigators must find mysterious artifacts, battle against ancient evil forces, and eventually make their getaway before midnight. One important aspect is that it’s an extraction role-playing game, meaning you will enter dangerous areas, collect knowledge or loot, and then extract before losing everything.
According to Roper and his group, they’re aiming for the ideal balance between independent inventiveness and the sophistication of bigger games. They think that “co-op narrative extraction horror” isn’t currently a well-served genre.

Timeline, Group, and Future Plans
Currently, Lunacy Games employs roughly 13 people, including Roper, who works in audio. There is currently no announced full release window. The funding is currently intended to prepare a vertical slice for future investment and to clear the path for full development.
