Forza Horizon 6 Officially Heads to Japan in 2026

During the Xbox Developer Direct on January 22, 2026, Playground Games officially debuted the gameplay trailer for Forza Horizon 6, confirming that the festival is finally heading to Japan. Long considered the “holy grail” for fans of the series, the Japanese setting will feature the largest and most dense map in Horizon history. Players will explore a massive, stylized recreation of Tokyo, five times larger than any previous city in the franchise, alongside iconic landmarks such as Mount Fuji, Hokkaido, and the winding mountain passes of Mount Haruna.

New Gameplay Features and JDM Culture

The gameplay reveal showcased a deep focus on authentic Japanese car culture, featuring over 550 cars at launch. Highlights include the debut of the 2025 Toyota GR GT Prototype and the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser as cover cars. The game introduces several innovative mechanics tailored to its new environment:

  • The Estate: A new housing feature where players can acquire a large plot of land (inspired by the Japanese “Akiya” concept) to fully customize with buildings, roads, and even personal tracks.
  • The Journal: Inspired by Japan’s stamp-collecting history, this system allows players to collect digital mementos of landmarks and murals discovered throughout the world.
  • Touge Battles: Specialized one-on-one races on narrow mountain passes, perfect for drifting enthusiasts.
  • Car Meets: Permanent social hubs inspired by the legendary Daikoku Parking Area, where players can showcase liveries and swap car tunes.
  • Horizon CoLab: An evolution of EventLab that now supports real-time multiplayer building and track editing.
