“Deux Ex Go” And Other Square Enix Mobile Games Set To Shut Down In January 2023

Square Enix Montreal has announced that four of its mobile game titles will be shutting down on January 2023. The titles include “Deus Ex Go,” “Hitman Sniper: The Shadows,” “Space Invaders: Hidden Heroes,” and “Arena Battle Champions.” Most of these games were launched barely a year.

The announcement was made via the studio’s Twitter account. The tweet mentioned that the games mentioned will be shut down on January 4, 2023, and will be removed from both the Google Play Store and App App Store on December 1, 2022. All in-game purchases have already been put to a stop. If you have credits left in these games, we suggest spending them now as there will be no refunds.

If some would still remember, Square Enix Montreal was bought by Embracer Group back in May 2022 and renamed Onoma. They also acquired another Square Enix studio, Crystal Dynamics, and Eidos Montreal with the acquisition finalized in August 2022. Barely 1 month after being purchased, Onoma was reportedly shut down. Embracer stated that the reason was due to cost-cutting.

Around 200 people will be affected by the shutdown. Onoma said their goodbyes with a simple message: “On behalf of the development team, we would like to thank you for playing our games.” The fate of other games under their IP like “Hitman GO, “Lara Croft GO, and “Hitman: Sniper” remains to be seen.
