Guerilla Games Is Developing A Second Horizon Multiplayer Game Alongside Horizon Steel Frontiers

The announcement of Horizon Steel Frontiers, a massive MMORPG developed by Guerilla Games and NCSoft for PC and mobile, confirms the Horizon franchise’s expansion into multiplayer. While exciting, this full-fledged MMORPG is an external, co-developed title, distinct from the core studio’s internal projects. Steel Frontiers utilizes the Horizon setting for large-scale online play but operates outside of Guerilla’s main development pipeline.

Guerilla’s Internal “Next Big Project”

Separately, the internal development team at Guerilla Games is reportedly working on a second, distinct multiplayer project slated as the studio’s “next big project,” according to sources like Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. Unlike the mobile/PC focused Steel Frontiers, this internal title is highly likely to launch on the PlayStation 5, alongside PC, representing Guerilla’s core vision and adhering to the studio’s traditional console roots for the franchise’s multiplayer experience.

Strategic Expansion of the Horizon IP

This dual development strategy, an external MMORPG and an internal flagship project, underscores a monumental commitment from both Guerilla and Sony to establish Horizon as a major multiplayer IP. This confirms the studio is pursuing multiple avenues for expansion. Now that Steel Frontiers is unveiled, the community awaits the official reveal of Guerilla’s internal project, which will ultimately define the long-term, interconnected future of the franchise.
