Gunpla-Inspired Mech Builder 3D Launches on Steam

Don Pachi has released Mech Builder 3D, an indie simulation game that brings the intricate world of plastic model assembly to Steam. Inspired by the popular Gundam Plastic Model (Gunpla) hobby, the game aims to provide a relaxing experience without the high costs or physical frustrations of traditional model building. At launch, the title features 61 different model kits, ranging from classic giant robots to kaiju-inspired mechs and kits with varied proportions. Players can assemble, paint, and decal their creations with streamlined tools that remove the fear of losing small parts or using the wrong brush.

Kitbashing and Customization

Beyond standard assembly, Mech Builder 3D offers a robust “kitbash” mode. This feature allows players to break away from instructions and combine parts from various kits to create entirely unique mechanical designs. The level of customization extends to the painting booth and decal application, giving users full creative control over the final look of their units. The developer notes that completing all standard kits takes approximately 7 to 9 hours, though the kitbash mode offers nearly limitless replayability for those who enjoy experimentation.

Posing and Diorama Modes

Once a model is finished, the experience shifts to presentation. The game includes a dedicated posing system where users can adjust joints to create dynamic action shots. For those who want to build a narrative around their mechs, a diorama mode provides various backgrounds and placeable objects to set the scene. These features are designed to mimic the photography aspect of the real-life hobby, allowing players to capture and share high-quality images of their digital masterpieces.
