A new regulation that prohibits sellers from listing recently released games at prices higher than the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for a predetermined amount of time after release was implemented by Japan’s top online marketplace in an effort to curb scalpers.
All new game software in the game category will be subject to the policy as of November 13. Sellers may have their accounts suspended, and offending listings will be deleted. The action is viewed as a component of larger initiatives to establish a more equitable and open market for used video games.

In the past, popular titles and limited edition sets have been quickly resold at exorbitant prices in Japan after their initial release. The marketplace operator gives instances of prices that, soon after launch, greatly surpassed the MSRP.
The platform hopes to minimize speculative purchasing, guarantee more fair access for customers, and promote a more robust gaming-commerce ecosystem by limiting resale prices.
