The next God of War entry may see Kratos take up a weapon rooted in ancient Egypt. According to renowned leaker Tom Henderson, speaking on Insider Gaming’s weekly podcast, Sony Santa Monica is developing a new mainline title in addition to the rumored 2.5D Metroidvania spin-off. Henderson hinted that Kratos’ arsenal could soon include the Khopesh, a sickle-shaped Egyptian sword.

A Weapon That Hints at Egypt
The Khopesh has origins in ancient Egypt, evolving from battle axes into a curved blade designed for both slashing and hooking. Its potential introduction to God of War could signal a shift in mythology from Norse to Egyptian, much like how the Leviathan Axe fit naturally within the Norse saga.
Fans have long speculated about an Egyptian setting. Game Director Cory Barlog previously revealed that the team considered both Egyptian and Mayan mythology for future titles before settling on the Norse duology.

What’s Next for God of War?
It’s been three years since God of War Ragnarök. If Henderson’s claims are accurate, the Metroidvania spin-off might arrive first, while the next big installment is still in early development. In the meantime, fans can look forward to the Amazon Prime Video adaptation, which is scheduled to begin filming in March 2026.
Whether Kratos will indeed journey into Egypt remains unconfirmed, but the rumor has already reignited excitement across the community.
