Maelle’s Stendahl Ability Receives Significant Nerf in Patch 1.2.3

On May 8, 2025, Sandfall Interactive released Patch 1.2.3 for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, implementing a significant 40% damage reduction to Maelle’s powerful late-game ability, Stendhal. This adjustment addresses balance concerns, as Stendhal, when combined with specific Pictos and the Medalum weapon, allowed players to deal several million in damage, trivializing challenging encounters.

Adjustment to Medalum Weapon’s Effect

The patch also corrects an unintended interaction with Maelle’s Medalum weapon. Previously, its third Lumina doubled all damage in Virtuose stance instead of only Burn damage. This fix ensures that the damage amplification aligns with the intended design, maintaining game balance.

Additional Fixes and Improvements

Patch 1.2.3 brings several other enhancements:

  • Ultrawide Display Support: Improved widescreen compatibility, addressing issues like zoomed gameplay and stretched menus.
  • Steam Deck and Xbox Game Pass Enhancements: Resolved background display problems on Steam Deck and added PS5 controller compatibility for PC Game Pass.
  • World Map Navigation: Fixed multiple areas where players could get stuck, enhancing exploration fluidity.
  • Combat and UI Adjustments: Addressed issues with mouse and keyboard inputs, ensuring smoother combat interactions.

Future Updates on the Horizon

Sandfall Interactive indicates that Patch 1.2.3 is the first in a series of planned updates. The development team is actively investigating feature requests and issues for future patches, suggesting ongoing support and refinement of Expedition 33.
