After months of silence, Riot Games finally gives us new updates on their upcoming “League Of Legends” arcade fighting game, “Project L.” The new information came in the form of a Youtube dev talk video featuring executive producer Tom Cannon, and game director Shaun Rivera.
The video opened with an Illaoi update from Tom Cannon, who said earlier variants of the champion were just preliminary design ideas. With today’s Illaoi combat clip showcasing an “approximately 30% complete character,” it appears that the parts for her model and fully developed kit are finally coming together. Illaoi is currently live in Riot’s internal playtest, according to Cannon, and is in her earliest playable state.

Cannon also shared something interesting. In “Project L,” champions can walk, run, dash, chain dash, leap, long jump, and super jump. While the video demonstrated Ahri’s fluttery hops mirroring her Spirit Rush from the MOBA, Rivera said that some champions would have more distinctive movement options in the air.

Three previously mentioned game mechanics were also featured in the video namely the Assist Actions, Handshake Tag, and Dynamic Save. Every champion will have two Assist Actions, and depending on how well you execute them, the moves may appear different. As long as both teammates are visible on the screen, players can switch characters using Handshake Tag, which can be used with Assist Actions. You can watch the dev talk video in full down below.
“We were originally developing Project L to be a one-v-one game where two champions enter, and one emerges victorious. But around two years ago, we made the pivot to a tag team assist-based fighter. Our tag systems are deep and flexible, aimed at helping you unlock your creativity. They work in tandem with our champions, allowing two champion teams to take down opponents together.” – Shaun Rivera, Game Director
Despite the slow updates from Riot, “Project L” seems to be chugging along really well. It has also been confirmed that the game will be Free-To-Play, a piece of news that delighted fans. More information coming soon so stay tuned to Enduins!
