Krafton and PUBG Studios have officially announced PUBG: Black Budget, a new spin-off game set within the PUBG: Battlegrounds universe. Categorized as an “extraction shooter,” the game shifts the focus from traditional battle royale mechanics to a mission-based, high-stakes survival experience. Players take on the role of Contractors tasked with infiltrating an abandoned research facility on a mysterious island to recover top-secret technology. The setting is complicated by a supernatural phenomenon known as the “Anomaly,” which traps the island in a time loop, adding a unique narrative and gameplay twist.

Gameplay Features and Mechanics
PUBG: Black Budget is described as a first-person perspective (FPP)-first experience that blends PvP and PvE threats. Key gameplay features include:
- Extraction Loop: Players must extract artifacts and research findings to uncover the truth behind the “SAPIENS” black-budget initiative. Only items successfully extracted are kept.
- Progression and Customization: Between missions, players can expand their personal Base, craft equipment, and improve character skills and proficiencies.
- Match Dynamics: Matches can last up to 30 minutes, supporting 3-player squads with a total of 45 players. In a nod to its battle royale roots, the “Anomaly” actively shrinks the playable area over time.
- Open World: The game features a 2.5×2.5km open-world island with diverse biomes and underground facilities.
