Sony’s first-party hero shooter, Concord, has officially shut down just two weeks after its launch on September 6th. The game, developed by Firewalk Studios and released on PS5 and PC, was intended to be a major title in Sony’s lineup. However, despite high expectations, the game struggled to resonate with players, leading to its premature closure.
Concord faced challenges from the outset, with mostly negative fan reactions following its reveal in May and a beta that did little to build excitement. The game was criticized for its generic art style and the outdated concept of an Overwatch-style hero shooter in a gaming landscape dominated by titles like Fortnite. Combined with its $40 price point, these factors led to disappointing sales and a swift decline in player interest.

Sony has removed Concord from sale, offering refunds to those who purchased the game. While the PlayStation Blog post announcing the shutdown left the possibility of a future return open, the immediate fate of the game seems bleak. This rapid closure underscores the challenges even major developers face in an increasingly competitive and fast-evolving gaming market.
