Sunborn has recently launched the pre-registration campaign for “Girls Frontline 2: Exilium” in China. The sequel to the widely popular “Girls Frontline” game has been long-awaited since it was first announced three years ago. Developed by the same team that created the first game, MICA, Exilium is set to feature tactical gameplay inspired by XCOM. Sunborn has also released new information about the game.
“Exilium” takes place 12 years after the events of the original game in 2074. The story picks up with the government shutting down Griffin and Kryuger, and the Commander being forced to secretly keep retired Dolls active in the field. During a delivery mission in the contaminated zone, the Commander and their squad are attacked by an unknown force. The team must now work to uncover hidden secrets and conspiracies related to relics.

Sunborn has had its fair share of development challenges with various projects, including “Neural Cloud” and “Glitch Land” spin-offs, announced in 2020. While “Neural Cloud” has been launched successfully, “Glitch Land” was unfortunately shelved after the lead developer left the studio. “Girls Frontline 2: Exilium” went silent for over a year after two closed betas, but with the pre-registration campaign launched, it seems that the game’s release is finally on the horizon although it will only be available in China for now. Here are the new updates from Sunborn regarding the game’s development:
- 3D character models have been updated
- The user interface has been updated
- A new Closed Beta will begin in July through September of 2023
- The game will be developed for PC and mobile with cross-platform support

Sunborn aims to have “Exilium” run alongside the original game instead of replacing it, giving fans of the first game a new adventure and gameplay to look forward to in the sequel. While pre-registration is currently available only in China, it’s expected that the game will release globally in the near future. For more info, visit their official website.
