Team Cherry, the developers behind the celebrated Hollow Knight series, might be looking to explore a new project rather than immediately moving on to a third installment. This possibility was discussed in a recent interview featuring Team Cherry co founder Ari Gibson.

Thinking Beyond Silksong
Speaking about the future of the studio after completing Silksong, the long awaited expansion or sequel to Hollow Knight, Gibson indicated that the team has “other games that we plan to make.” He expressed a desire to create more games due to the long development cycles, jokingly referencing the concern that “death” is “not that far off if you spend seven years per project.”

Exploring New Themes and Genres
When asked if the next project would be set in the same universe, Gibson confirmed that they have also stated they will “go elsewhere.” However, he assured fans that these new experiences will maintain the studio’s signature style, focusing on exploring “big worlds full of weird characters and giant bosses.” While this does not rule out a future return to the Hollow Knight universe, as the team still has ideas for that, Gibson emphasized that they do not want to be exclusively known for making Hollow Knight games. He noted that it would be interesting to explore their core interests through a slightly different genre or theme, which could impact the stories they create. It is estimated that any new non Hollow Knight project from Team Cherry is still likely four to five years away.
