Tencent has secured the rights to develop and publish the highly anticipated mobile edition of “Blue Protocol,” a creation of Bandai Namco Holdings. This strategic move aims to revitalize Tencent’s international gaming portfolio.
Tencent, known as a global gaming giant, has swiftly assembled a dedicated team to work on “Blue Protocol Mobile.” They’ve also acquired global distribution rights, underscoring their commitment to this project. This aligns with Tencent’s successful strategy of adapting popular franchises like “Call of Duty” and “PUBG” for mobile gaming.
The release date for “Blue Protocol Mobile” remains uncertain, with estimates suggesting it may take a year or more. The PC version of “Blue Protocol” launched in Japan in June, fueling anticipation for the mobile version. Official statements are scarce, as Bandai Namco has chosen to remain tight-lipped, and Tencent hasn’t responded to inquiries.

“Blue Protocol” belongs to the free-to-play online role-playing game category, relying on in-game purchases for revenue. This model has proven lucrative for titles like “League of Legends,” owned by Tencent’s subsidiary Riot Games. In “Blue Protocol,” players immerse themselves in a world of anime characters wielding blades and magic, created by the team behind Bandai Namco’s beloved Tales series.

The game had an impressive debut, attracting 600,000 players in its first week, with a peak of 200,000 simultaneous connections, setting a record for Bandai Namco’s domestic PC online games. Moreover, it’s set to make waves in Western markets next year, with Amazon.com’s gaming division planning a release on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
