Tencent Games Developing New Hero Shooter Based on Honor of Kings IP

Tencent Games is venturing into the hero shooter genre with a new title, codenamed “Shooting,” based on the Honor of Kings intellectual property (IP). Developed by TiMi Studios’ L1 Studio using Unreal Engine 5, this project aims to provide a fresh experience while preserving the franchise’s essence.

A Strategic Move into New Genres

Codenamed “Shooting” signifies Tencent’s strategy to diversify the Honor of Kings universe beyond its original multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) format. By exploring new genres like hero shooters, Tencent aims to leverage the existing popularity of Honor of Kings to reach a broader audience.

Global Launch and Talent Recruitment

Although in its early development stages, “Shooting” is targeting a global launch. TiMi Studios is actively recruiting for key positions, including Senior Special Effects Designer, Senior Combat Designer, and Senior Numerical Planner, all based in Chengdu, China, requiring over three years of experience.

Honor of Kings: A Record-Breaking Legacy

Honor of Kings has achieved remarkable milestones, including being the first mobile game to surpass $10 billion in revenue in 2021. Its success has paved the way for expansions into various genres and formats, with “Shooting” being the latest endeavor.
