Konami officially announced today that Suikoden STAR LEAP, the first canonical mainline release in years, is launching globally on Steam, in addition to iOS and Android. The reveal came during the Press Start showcase, accompanied by a dramatic new trailer set between Suikoden V and the original Suikoden.
A Canonical Story Set Between Suikoden V and I
Set in Solar Year 453, Suikoden STAR LEAP bridges the timeline between Suikoden V and the very first Suikoden. The story follows a new protagonist rebuilding a village destroyed in a sudden attack. Familiar threats arise from the Scarlet Moon Empire, and it’s up to the Hero and companions like Hisui, Shirin, and Shapur to rally the forces. The plot is rich, nostalgic, and fully rooted in the original Suikoden timeline.

A Classic Gameplay Formula With Modern Enhancements
The game features stunning 2D sprite art layered over beautiful 3D backgrounds, evoking the aesthetic of early Suikoden titles. Combat uses a turn-based strategy system with party management elements, and it plays fluidly across both PC and mobile devices. You’ll gather a team, engage in tactical battles, and progress through a classic Suikoden-style narrative—one that rewards players rather than pushing monetization.

A Free-to-Play Structure That Respects the Franchise
While the game is free-to-play and includes a gacha system for some character variants, Konami has confirmed that all 108 Stars of Destiny can be recruited without using gacha. That’s a major win for long-time fans who value gameplay progression over luck-based draws. This design choice puts STAR LEAP in a rare category of gacha games that respect both the lore and the players’ time.

Returning Legends and a New Generation
Fan-favorite characters like Viktor, Flik, and Odessa are back, joined by a fresh cast that blends seamlessly with the legacy of the Suikoden universe. Whether you’re a veteran of the original PlayStation releases or a new player curious about the hype, STAR LEAP is built to welcome both camps with familiar faces and accessible storytelling.

What to Do Before the Launch
You can already add Suikoden STAR LEAP to your Steam wishlist, and Konami is actively teasing new updates via their official channels. A concrete release date hasn’t been revealed yet, but all signs point to a 2025 release.
