Square Enix’s 4V4 Party Shooter Game, Foam Stars Is Going F2P In October

Square Enix has officially announced that FOAMSTARS, its vibrant online 4v4 party shooter, will transition to a free-to-play model starting October 4th. Available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the game will no longer require a purchase, making it accessible to a wider audience. This shift is part of Square Enix’s strategy to attract a larger player base, recognizing that player numbers are crucial to the success of live service games, particularly in the competitive gaming landscape.

For those who have already purchased FOAMSTARS, Square Enix has prepared a special reward package to show appreciation for their early support. These players will receive the “Legacy Gift,” which includes 12 exclusive Bubble Beastie skins, a unique Slide Board design, and the “Legacy” title for their accounts. Additionally, unlike many other online games, FOAMSTARS will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription, further lowering the barrier to entry for new players.

FOAMSTARS stands out in the crowded shooter genre with its playful and unique foam-based mechanics. Players can choose from a variety of colorful characters and engage in thrilling 4v4 battles where the terrain itself can be manipulated with foam. The game strikes a balance between competitive and casual play, ensuring that even in defeat, the experience remains enjoyable. With the move to free-to-play, FOAMSTARS has the potential to attract a diverse player base, allowing more people to explore its creative gameplay and dynamic environments.
