Netflix has recently confirmed that their high fantasy series, “The Witcher” has been renewed for a fourth season but the main character, Geralt of Rivia has been recast. Henry Cavill steps down from the main role and Liam Hemsworth will now take on the mantle of the White Wolf.
Netflix’s “The Witcher” series is an adaptation of the popular “Witcher” books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The series started airing in 2019 and became a massive hit with many fans of the franchise praising Henry Cavill’s portrayal of the main protagonist, white-haired Witcher, Geralt Of Rivia. The series instantly became one of Netflix’s most popular titles on their streaming platform and has since spawned more seasons, an anime prequel, and movies, and made the books and the video game series even more in demand. But alas, all things must come to an end. Well, at least for the role of Geralt.

The news of Henry Cavill being replaced as Geralt broke the internet. Part of why Netflix’s “The Witcher” series was truly successful was because everybody knew Henry was a massive fan of the books and the games, confessing that he has put some serious hours on “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” even before he was cast as the main protagonist in the series. Knowing this has put fans at ease because they knew Geralt was being played by a true and genuine fan of the franchise.

Liam Hemsworth is the younger brother of Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He has starred in “The Hunger Games” trilogy and “Independence Day: Resurgence.”
The news also came after another internet-breaking announcement when it was confirmed that Cavill will reprise his role as Superman for the DC’s cinematic universe. Netflix nor Cavill did not mention the reason why he is leaving, but it may be because of conflicting projects. As for “The Witcher,” its third season is scheduled for the summer of 2023. Cavill is very well known to be a massive gamer and fan of Warhammer miniatures. It’s sad to see him go as Geralt, but we’re also looking forward to how Liam Hemsworth will portray the role. Least to say, he has some massive boots to fill.
