ByteDance, the company behind TikTok, is actively exploring the sale of its gaming assets and engaging in discussions with potential buyers, including gaming giant Tencent. This move reflects ByteDance’s strategic exit from the gaming sector.
Ongoing talks have not yet resulted in a definitive deal. Discussions primarily involve a potential agreement for popular video games from ByteDance’s Nuverse gaming unit, such as “Crystal of Atland” and “Earth: Revival.”

ByteDance’s entry into the $185 billion global video games market five years ago was noteworthy, but the company announced in November its decision to revamp Nuverse and withdraw from gaming, redirecting focus towards core business areas.

In November, sources disclosed that ByteDance ceased development of unreleased games and sought buyers for Moonton, a gaming unit acquired in 2021.
The dynamic between ByteDance and Tencent in the gaming realm has shifted. After a competitive period, the companies are now in talks about potential collaboration. Tencent reportedly utilized ByteDance’s advertising network to promote its latest game, “DreamStar.”
