Sony Columbia Pictures is preparing a live-action movie based on the popular anime and manga “One-Punch Man.” Dan Harmon, best known as the creator of “Community” and co-creator of “Rick & Morty,” has joined to rewrite the “One-Punch Man” script. Harmon will collaborate with Heather Anne Campbell, a former “Saturday Night Live” writer and executive producer of “Rick & Morty” for its sixth and seventh seasons.
This introduction of Harmon and Campbell marks a departure from the original scriptwriters, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg of “Venom.” This shift suggests a potential reimagining of the film’s tone and style, aligning it more closely with the manga and anime’s mix of absurdity and action.

Justin Lin, known for directing the “Fast & Furious” series, remains in charge of directing, ensuring the action sequences will be both dynamic and visually spectacular. While the producer roles previously held by Avi and Ari Arad are currently uncertain, the project continues under Sony’s ambitious vision.

“One-Punch Man” follows Saitama, a superhero so powerful that he defeats any adversary with a single punch, serving both as a critique and homage to the superhero genre. The series balances explosive action with satire and comedy, a mix well suited to Harmon and Campbell’s storytelling styles.
With Sony optimistic about the film’s potential to start a franchise, the “One-Punch Man” movie aims to capture the essence of its source material and establish a new niche in the growing field of live-action adaptations.
