The entire staff of Annapurna Interactive, known for publishing acclaimed indie games like Stray, Outer Wilds, and What Remains of Edith Finch, has reportedly resigned. According to Bloomberg, the gaming division’s 25-member team, led by former president Nathan Gary, collectively stepped down after failed negotiations to spin off the division into an independent company.

“This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make and we did not take this action lightly,” Gary and former staff members told Bloomberg.

Annapurna Interactive’s parent company, Annapurna Pictures, has a strong reputation in film, producing award-winning titles like Her and Zero Dark Thirty. The resignation follows reports that Annapurna intended to merge its gaming operations with its film and TV divisions. Despite the staff’s departure, Annapurna has stated that ongoing game projects will remain under the company.

Hector Sanchez, a cofounder of Annapurna Interactive, recently took over as president of the company’s interactive and new media division. Upcoming games from Annapurna Interactive include Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, Ghost Bike, and Wanderstop.
