TERA 2 Reportedly in Early Development at Krafton’s Bluehole Studio

Good news for MMORPG fans! According to a report from Inven, Krafton has silently initiated development on TERA 2, forming a brand-new team within Bluehole Studio’s R&D division. It’s early days, but the spark is there.

A Small, Veteran-Led Team

According to multiple sources, Krafton assembled a compact group—just four people—to kickstart the sequel. They report to CEO Cho Doo-in, and the project is spearheaded by Kang Sang-wook, the very first employee at Bluehole and an original developer on TERA.

Returning to Its Roots

TERA 2 is reportedly staying faithful to its predecessor’s action-combat style—a real-time, non-targeting MMORPG. No auto-target nonsense, just fluid gameplay and striking visuals, echoing the original’s legacy from 2011.

From TERA to TERA 2

The first TERA launched in January 2011 and stood out for popularizing non-targeting combat among Korean MMORPGs. It ran until June 30, 2022—players were disappointed when its Korean service ended after eleven years.

Looking Ahead

With Krafton lacking a true MMORPG flagship, this early R&D move signals renewed ambition. Chairman Chang Byung-gyu has shown continued interest in the genre via titles like TERA and Elyon. Now, all eyes are on Kang Sang-wook and his fledgling team.
