Game Science has officially announced Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the next entry in the Black Myth series following the critically acclaimed Black Myth: Wukong. The new single-player action RPG will launch for PC and mainstream consoles, with specific platforms to be confirmed at a later date. No release window has been provided yet.
Why Announce Now?
The reveal came on August 20, 2025, continuing Game Science’s tradition of updating players on the same date each year. With the project still in its early stages—“little more than an empty folder” according to the developer—there was no gameplay to show. Instead, the studio shared a CG short trailer to confirm that development has officially begun.
Why Zhong Kui Instead of a Wukong Sequel?
After the success of Black Myth: Wukong, the studio wanted to explore new myths and creative directions rather than immediately following up with a direct sequel. The legendary figure Zhong Kui, often portrayed in Chinese folklore as a vanquisher of demons, became a natural choice for the next chapter in the series.
The developers emphasized that this new project will:
- Build on the mythological foundation established in Wukong.
- Retain the single-player ARPG genre and familiar business model.
- Experiment with fresh mechanics, bolder features, and new storytelling approaches.
What Will Be Different?
Unlike Black Myth: Wukong, where players embodied the Monkey King, Black Myth: Zhong Kui will introduce a new playable hero rooted in different folklore. Game Science noted that they are still exploring the unique differences between the two titles but promised both familiarity and surprises for fans of the first game.

At this stage, the developers admit there is no clear release date—“even Yocar himself has absolutely no idea,” they joked. What has been confirmed is that Zhong Kui will launch on:
