Nintendo has officially confirmed its follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie. During a special Nintendo Direct celebrating the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., the company revealed the sequel will be titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, with a release date set for April 2026.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Announced
Following the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed over US$1.3 billion worldwide, Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment are teaming up once again. The sequel adapts the fan-favorite 2007 Wii classic Super Mario Galaxy, expanding Mario’s adventures into the cosmos.
Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Super Mario Bros., confirmed that he is working on the project “every day” and believes it will be a fitting centerpiece for the franchise’s 40th anniversary.
Returning Cast
Several cast members from the first movie will reprise their roles:
- Chris Pratt as Mario
- Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach
- Charlie Day as Luigi
- Keegan-Michael Key as Toad
Release Date
Nintendo has confirmed that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will hit U.S. theaters on April 3, 2026, followed by a Japanese release on April 24, 2026.
With its cosmic setting, beloved characters, and star-studded cast, the movie is shaping up to be another milestone for Nintendo and Illumination’s growing cinematic universe.
