Decrepit is a new first-person action game that features punishing, souls-like combat mechanics. The game drops you into a decaying, medieval, horror-themed world where you must fight your way out of a forsaken castle. The core loop is one of brutal repetition: every time you die, you lose all your gear and are dragged back to the dungeons, waking up in a different cell each time.

Your only chance to escape is through knowledge. You must learn the castle’s layout, memorize enemy patterns, and adapt to what you find. What feels impossible during your early attempts will eventually become manageable as you understand the unforgiving rules of the world.

Stamina-Based Combat and Gear Customization

The combat in Decrepit is focused on positioning, timing, and reading enemy movements, or “telegraphs.” Every weapon has a unique set of light and heavy attacks. You must manage your stamina carefully. Spells can be strategically slotted into openings in the melee combat for powerful combinations. Mistakes are heavily punished in this challenging system.

Your character build is defined by the limited equipment you can carry: one weapon, one staff, and one armor piece. You can specialize by hunting for matching gear sets from the four archetypes—Mage, Warrior, Rogue, or Shaman—to unlock powerful set bonuses and unique abilities. Every slain enemy drops their gear, forcing you to constantly adapt or commit to your chosen path.

Master the Interconnected Castle

The castle itself is designed to be a hostile puzzle. Since each run begins in a random cell, mastery is the only map you have. There are no in-game maps or quest markers. You must memorize the winding corridors, discover hidden passages, and unlock permanent shortcuts like elevators. The world is persistent, featuring variable enemy encounters that appear in a constant world. This layout compresses as you gain knowledge, allowing later runs to bypass early dangers and head straight for the boss that defeated you previously. The world is oppressive and waits to be understood.
