Amazon Prime Video has released the first official image of Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner as the legendary archeologist Lara Croft. The photo, shared as a “wardrobe test,” features Turner in an outfit that is a direct homage to the classic Tomb Raider games. Complete with her signature dual pistols, tactical shorts, and teal top, the look signals a move toward a more traditional representation of the character. Fans of the original PlayStation era have expressed early enthusiasm for the costume’s fidelity to the source material, suggesting a shift away from the grittier, survival-focused aesthetic seen in the recent “Survivor Trilogy” games.
An Interconnected Narrative
The upcoming live-action series is being developed as a cornerstone of Amazon’s broader Tomb Raider ecosystem. According to production company Story Kitchen, the show will interconnect with the narratives present in the upcoming video games rather than being a standalone project or a continuation of previous film adaptations. This strategy aims to create a unified Tomb Raider universe where the events of the series directly influence or reflect the lore of the games. The series will also feature a high-profile supporting cast, including Celia Imrie, Jason Isaacs, and Sigourney Weaver in currently undisclosed roles.

Part of a Global Tomb Raider Rebirth
The release of these first images coincides with a larger resurgence for the franchise. At last year’s Game Awards, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games revealed Tomb Raider: Catalyst, a new major installment in the series, alongside a full “from the ground up” remake of the original 1996 game. With a mobile port of the 2013 reboot and the second season of Netflix’s animated series also on the horizon, 2026 is shaping up to be a defining year for Lara Croft. While a concrete release date for the Prime Video series has not yet been confirmed, production is moving forward rapidly.
