California Court Orders X To Reveal Genshin Impact Leakers’ Identities

A California court has ordered X (formerly Twitter) to reveal the identities of four users accused of leaking Genshin Impact content. The ruling, issued last week, requires X to provide Cognosphere, the game’s publisher, with the names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of individuals behind the accounts @HutaoLoverGI, @GIHutaoLover, @HutaoLover77, and @FurinaaLover. These accounts are alleged to have shared leaked material related to the game.

X initially refused to comply with a DMCA subpoena, citing First Amendment concerns. However, the court ruled that the leaked content did not fall under “core First Amendment expression” and found that Cognosphere presented a valid case of copyright violation.

This legal move is part of Cognosphere’s ongoing efforts to combat Genshin Impact leaks, following previous actions against other platforms. The case underscores the tension between intellectual property rights and online anonymity, potentially setting a precedent for future cases in the gaming industry.
