Pearl Abyss has unveiled a 13-minute gameplay demonstration for Crimson Desert ahead of Gamescom 2025, giving fans their most detailed look yet at the upcoming open-world action-adventure RPG. The demo will be playable at Gamescom in Cologne from August 20 to 24, and later at PAX West in Seattle from August 29 to September 1.
Story Setup
Before the demo, protagonist Kliff of the Greymane clan is ambushed by the Drunken Black Bears. After being separated from his allies, Kliff sets out to reunite with them across the continent of Pywel. His search leads him to Calphade, where he discovers the region is collapsing under a rebellion led by Cassius Morten, who has betrayed his lord and allied with the Black Bears. Kliff joins the battle, turns the tide, reunites with his comrade Oongka, and ultimately defeats Cassius to end the revolt.

Gameplay Features Highlighted
- Large-Scale Battles – The demo emphasizes massive real-time warfare, with soldiers clashing across sprawling battlefields while artillery rains down, creating the atmosphere of a true war zone.
- Missions – Kliff takes on diverse objectives including firing cannons, destroying watchtowers, and assisting allies on the battlefield.
- Traversal and Abilities – Players can ride horses for speed, glide with the “Crow’s Wing,” and wield the “Axiom Force” for mobility and combat strategy. Kliff’s “Axiom Bracelet” adds elemental enhancements—fire arrows explode, ice freezes enemies, and lightning strikes stun foes.
- Combat and Tactics – Kliff’s arsenal allows players to dodge, block, switch weapons, and call in allies using “Artillery Whistling Arrows.” Combat is designed to encourage flexibility and player choice.
- Boss Fights – The demo climaxes with two major encounters: a massive Black Bear warrior whose brute strength changes combat flow, and Cassius Morten, who wields a deadly mace and shield. Players can defeat Cassius traditionally or trigger a cinematic tactic—lifting shattered pillars to strike a finishing blow.
- Stunning Visuals – The continent of Pywel shines with Pearl Abyss’ proprietary BlackSpace Engine, offering natural lighting, dynamic weather, and breathtaking environments ranging from mountain cliffs to sweeping battlefields.
